Beth and Marco live in Boston and they are Red Sox fans but that doesn’t make them bad people (-; Marco is actually a Bills fan too (originally from Buffalo) so they could be my favorite Sox fans. I know we would enjoy a Yankee//Red Sox game together so that says a lot about what a great couple they are. To be honest, they are actually pretty special to me. A couple of years ago I shot Katie’s wedding (where I met Beth), which led to Anita’s wedding (because Beth told her about me), and Marisa’s wedding, and now to Beth’s wedding. These were all great weddings with the most wonderful people. So when Beth asked me about her wedding in Saratoga Springs my reply was, “Come on Beth, three of my favorite brides and my favorite Mom (Katie’s Mom Carol is the greatest) are going to be there. How could I miss it? It would be an honor and a pleasure to do this with you.” I really am excited about seeing everyone again, and I’m hoping that Katie and I can squeeze in a trash the dress session while I am there. Every one of these people have a special place in my heart and I am delighted to be able to spend another weekend together with them.
So Beth and Marco flew into Buffalo to see Marco’s parents, and they both went to school in Rochester (like me) so we decided to meet at the University of Rochester for their engagement session. It wasn’t too hot, the light was beautiful, and they did an awesome job. To top it off, it was the first shoot with my new 5D MKII. Plus I listened to a great interview with B. B. King on the way up to Rochester with the windows down the whole way. They treated me to some incredible Thai food after we finished which made for a perfect ending to a perfect day. I have to admit that I was pretty tired on the way home and I’m thankful that I didn’t actually pass out completely until my head was resting on my pillow.
Not everything was smooth sailing though. We were in this amazing library on campus and we were kind of surprised because most of the lights were off and no one was around. I even commented that it was pretty shocking how everything was left open like it was. So we started moving around looking for cool places to shoot in (I could have stayed there all day because the place was so awesome) and did a couple quick things when suddenly two security guards came running up the stairs looking for us. They were really nice but wanted to know what we were doing and how we got in the place. We told them that the door was open and we were doing an engagement shoot. They said the place was closed and that we were stetting off alarms everywhere we went. Graduation was actually last week and everything was closed down. The one guard had a big smile on his face the whole time and really seemed to be into what we were doing so I knew we were o.k. but we still had to go. We cruised around some beautiful parts of Rochester and had a great time talking, hanging out, and shooting.
I hope it was a lot of fun for the two of you as well Beth and Marco. I look forward to a wonderful weekend together in October for your wedding.
