I love to shoot in NYC, and especially love to shoot creative people. Maureen is a dance teacher/actor, while Justin works in television, and yes they are both very creative. We met at the crossroads of the world on a beautiful day, explored a few different locations, and really had a lot of fun together. There is so much to gain from doing an engagement shoot like this with your photographer. I always walk away feeling more in tuned with the couple, and better prepared for their wedding. It is also nice to get great feedback from your future bride and groom. I hope Maureen doesn’t mind my sharing a piece of the e-mail she sent after the shoot. She wrote, “You are amazing!! We had such a blast yesterday. We can’t stop talking about it. And we can’t believe how comfortable we are around you. Hope you felt the same way. Thanks so much for doing such a great shoot with us.” Of course, I was comfortable, they are a great couple, but the important thing is that they felt comfortable. Now when I show up for the wedding there is already a connection, and this connection is such a vital part to what I do for people. It makes it possible for me to produce the kind of images they expect me to deliver, and I want to deliver.
We started in Times Square, then went to the Rockefeller Center, and Central Park, before finishing up at 230 Fifth. I know, what is 230 fifth? Well if you haven’t been there, you should. Maureen found it and we were interested because it has a great rooftop view of The Empire State Building (where Justin proposed). It also has an incredible penthouse lounge with the most spectacular furniture and decor. I could have shot in there for a week, so you can bet I was like a kid in a candy store. When we finished Maureen and Justin treated me to a bunch of different dishes off the Tapas menu. Yum, my mouth is still watering just thinking about it. If you visit NYC, please check this place out because it is a visual and culinary delight. If you are one of my NYC photographer friends then I suggest you go take a look as well because it is something you don’t want to miss.
Their wedding promises to be even more exciting. It starts out at an incredibly beautiful church, and the reception will be on a boat cruise around Manhattan. The theme is Old Hollywood movies (Breakfast at Tiffany’s, An Affair to Remember.) It will definitely be a lot of fun and tons of great photo opportunities. Thank you so much for everything Maureen and Justin. I know you are going to be an incredible bride and groom, and I look forward to the next time we are together. Here is a link to their wedding website.
Okay, for me the first and last images (it didn’t seem fair to have them follow each other) are another of those “I love it in color, but it is so amazing in B&W” images. I usually can pick which one I like better, even if just by a little bit, but I couldn’t do it here and thought I would give you the choice. Please feel free to comment (I love comments) and let me know which one you like better.
