I had the pleasure of meeting Kelli and Kevin just two months ago and it is hard to believe that there wedding has come and gone so fast. We didn’t get a chance to do an engagement session so photographing their wedding was going to be the first time they were in front of my camera. There is nothing better to a photographer than when he/she asks the people they are shooting to add a little personality to the poses and they light up like Kelli and Kevin did. To say they blew my socks off would be an understatement. Not only did they come alive in more ways than I could have imagined, they were also willing to take a walk away from things whenever I asked, and gave me free reign on creativity. It is such a great feeling to have a couple put their complete trust in my hands like that. I am blessed with couples that usually do this, but it is still always wonderful when it happens.
We started out at the Glen Manor Bed & Breakfast in Watkins Glen for some getting ready images. Next we ventured into the actual Glen, and what a visual treat it was. It is so easy to forget or take for granted the natural beauty that surrounds us. Sometimes the closest things seem the farthest away. It was like that when I lived in Niagara Falls. I was always amazed by the number of locals that had never been on The Maid of the Mist, or down to The Cave of the Winds. I took my kids with me for a test run through the Glen and they kept saying, “Daddy can we move here?” I said, “We do live here.” They don’t remember the last time I took them down there, which means it was too long ago. Do yourself a favor and explore your backyard again, you might be surprised at what you find. That is one of the greatest things about being a photographer; it brings me home when I least expect it. We then drove about twenty minutes up the lake (right by my house) to Suzanne Fine Regional Cuisine. Bob and Suzanne are incredible hosts at a beautiful 1903 farmhouse with a breathtaking view of Seneca Lake. People travel great distances to experience the incredible food they have to offer. I would highly recommend looking into their place if you are thinking about having your wedding on one of the fabulous wine trails in the Finger Lakes.
Thank you Kelli, Kevin, your friends and families for welcoming me with open arms, and for providing all the sunshine we needed on an otherwise rainy day. Yes, almost everything we did was in the rain (can you tell by the photos?). I love the rain and always tell my couples to embrace the rain. Sometimes if you endure long enough the sun will come out to set, and that is always amazing.
